Julia Letlow: Why I'm Running for U.S. Senate
State Affairs | March 23, 2026
My life did not take the path I expected, but I have learned that when the Lord calls you to do something hard, you do not look for an excuse. You step forward, do the work, and trust Him to carry what you cannot.
That belief is what led me into public service, and it is what led me to run for the United States Senate. After a lot of prayer, I knew it was time for a new generation of conservative leadership to step up for Louisiana. I am honored to have President Trump’s complete and total endorsement in this race, and I am ready to stand with him in the Senate to advance the America First agenda.
I am a Louisiana native, born and raised in Monroe. I attended Ouachita Christian and ULM, and I built my career in higher education because I believe investing in the next generation matters.
But the most important title I will ever have is mom. My son Jeremiah and my daughter Jacqueline are my why, and like every parent in our state, I want them to grow up in a country that is safe, strong, and free.
Many Louisianans know my story. In December 2020, my husband Luke was elected to Congress. Just days before he was set to be sworn in, he passed away at 41 years old. I lost my best friend, and my children lost their father.
Through that heartbreak, my faith carried me, and I felt called to serve. In March 2021, with the support of the people of Louisiana’s Fifth District, I was elected to Congress.
I did not go to Washington to build a political career. I went there to fight for Louisiana.
On the Appropriations Committee, I have worked to deliver real results for our communities while standing up for parents, supporting our farmers, backing law enforcement, and defending the conservative values we share. I have been a reliable vote for President Trump’s agenda, and I will bring that same steady leadership to the Senate.
That matters because Louisiana needs a conservative senator who will stand with President Trump when it counts. Bill Cassidy did not. His vote to convict President Trump was a clear break from the voters who sent him to Washington, and Louisiana Republicans have not forgotten it.
In the Senate, I will stay focused on the priorities that matter most to Louisiana families: keeping the border secure, stopping the flow of fentanyl, protecting election integrity, defending life, standing up for parents’ rights, protecting the Second Amendment, supporting Louisiana energy, and reining in Washington by cutting spending and shrinking the federal bureaucracy.
Five years ago, I never imagined I would be here. But life has a way of calling you to something bigger than yourself. I learned that through loss, through faith, and through the strength of the people of Louisiana.
We are faithful. We are strong. And we do not back down.
I am asking for your vote, your support, and your prayers. Together, we will send President Trump the backup he needs in the United States Senate.
Congresswoman Julia Letlow represents Louisiana's 5th Congressional District and is running for the U.S. Senate.
